Driving Tips That Wake You Up!

Driving can make you very drowsy when on long road trips. Always get enough sleep and eat a snack or meal before hitting the road. You want to make sure you remain alert and focused the entire time. Driving while tired is very dangerous to both you and other drivers. Here are some helpful tips to help you avoid driving tired on your journey.

Take Turns Driving

Share the driving responsibilities with someone else if you can. This will allow you to nap without losing time. If you’re driving alone, turn on the radio or put on some music, and keep your window cracked open. You may want to refrain from using your cruise control if you’re driving alone, especially at night. Sometimes having to concentrate on maintaining your speed can help you stay awake.

Bring Snacks

if you have a small snack available, be sure to eat it slowly. By eating the snack slowly it keeps you active, and the longer you can stay active the more you will be able to remain awake. Try eating your snack one bite at a time, this will prolong how long you remain active eating. Always be cautious when eating while driving.

Take Breaks

Every couple of hours pull over and take a break, even if you don’t feel tired. Get out and walk around to stretch your legs and get fresh air or just grab a snack. If you do feel tired take a quick power nap.

Avoid Sugar

You want to avoid any sugar before and during your drive, since sugar can put you into a lull after you have had it. Once the sugar is gone from your system, and that sugar high is gone, it can make you feel drowsy. Chewing sugar-free gum is a great way to keep busy.

Put the Window Down

A cool breeze on your face can help keep you awake. If you feel yourself falling asleep, make sure to put your window down or turn the air conditioner on. This will help keep you alert.
